March 8, 2016
We are proud to announce that we have achieved a significant milestone: winning the prestigious JEC World 2016 Innovation Award in the Automotive Exterior Parts category. This award was granted for the development of a key automotive component: an ultra-light, multi-material carbon fiber decklid, created in collaboration with Continental Structural Plastics (CSP).
The jury recognized the product’s outstanding surface quality and the benefits of a fast production process. By utilizing carbon fiber, a significant reduction in cycle time was achieved, enabling the production of highly competitive vehicles that are lighter, more fuel-efficient, and thus environmentally friendlier.
The JEC World Innovation Awards, established in 1998, celebrates and promotes the most innovative composite solutions worldwide. Selection criteria include technical excellence, exemplary collaboration within the supply chain, market potential, and originality.
The winning concept was developed by CSP’s research and development teams in Auburn Hills (Michigan) and Pouancé (France), with the support of renowned partners such as Owens Corning, Compose Tooling Expert, Altair Engineering, PPE, Hexion, and Brandolph. The project aimed to compare the weight of traditional steel or aluminum trunk lids with those made using advanced multi-material solutions.
